It was decided to incorporate the society trip around the castles of North Wales with our AGM which took place in The Owain Glyndŵr Hotel in Corwen.
We very fortunate to have glorious sunny weather for our excursion. Twenty-four members went in two minibuses and two went by car.
The first place we visited was Denbigh Castle. The ruined castle completely dominates the town of Denbigh and we were enthralled with the spectacular panoramic views.
The second stop on our journey was Rhuddlan castle. Once again there were spectacular views together with a glimpse of the sea.
After a very pleasant lunch in Rhuddlan we proceeded to Flint castle. This was very near the sea and, again, we were able to view the castle and surrounding area from elevated positions.
On our return to Corwen Gareth, our secretary, took us along the route of the Hope Parade, which is held annually every February, to commemorate the liberation of the town by Owain’s forces in 1403.
To conclude the day, we held our AGM at The Owain Glyndŵr Hotel in Corwen. It was presided over by our officers Eirwyn Evans, Gareth Jones and John Hughes who all gave their own reports. It was pointed out that there had been a significant increase in membership subscriptions for the past year. All officers were unanimously re-elected, and it was decided that Malcolm Lloyd should be appointed Technical Officer.
